Montreal police have arrested a man who was wanted in connection with a fatal 2012 hit-and-run at a gas station in the Toronto area.

Max Edwin Tutiven, 42, was arrested in Hochelaga-Maisonneuve shortly before 10 a.m.

Police had made their way to a residence on Chambly St. around 7:45 a.m., where they were waiting for a warrant before making the arrest.

About two hours later, Tutiven turned himself over.

Tutiven was wanted under a Canada-wide warrant for second-degree murder.

In September 2012, he allegedly struck a gas station attendant with his car after attempting to leave the station without paying for his gas.

The attendant, 44-year-old Jayesh Prajapati, had run in front of the car to stop him from leaving. Prajapati died from his injuries.

Police had said Tutiven has connections in southern Ontario and in Montreal.

Montreal police have not confirmed it was Tutiven who was arrested, but Toronto Police Service spokesperson Jennifer Sidhu did.

“The arrest was made possible by the cooperation of both the public and the media,” Sidhu said. “Our homicide investigators are making their way out to Montreal as soon as possible.”

Toronto police had announced a $25,000 reward this week for any information leading to Tutiven’s arrest.
